Although I was following a consistent fitness regime, I was still struggling to shed the last 10 lbs of post baby weight two years after the fact.
Enter Debra Basch! I began following Debra’s ReShape program which is a combination of personal training and nutrition. Her vast knowledge of nutrition helped me re-set my eating habits entirely and over the span of her 12 week program, I was able to lose the unwanted weight and learn how to eat to fuel my body. She is reasonable in her approach and does not subscribe to fads or diets. With her, it’s all about whole food eating and embracing a healthy lifestyle. She also has an infectious, positive energy! I have lost the weight and inches but more importantly, I feel great and have the tools necessary to maintain good habits moving forward. The book she produces as part of this program is worth its weight in gold. A great resource to refer back to after the program is complete.

Did I dare do it? Did I dare admit that I had gained weight? That I had stopped eating mindfully? That I had lost some of my spark for exercising? Did I dare admit that I needed some help? Thankfully, when I finally recognized that I could use help, Reshape at eMbody Fitness with Debra Basch was waiting for me. With trepidation - unsure of whether I could commit to a weekly class, unsure of whether I really wanted to change my habits - I signed up. The class has exceeded my expectations. Apart from the camaraderie and recipes and training techniques, our fearless leader, Debra, refused to listen to us whine, complain or make excuses for our poor lifestyle choices. Too busy to work out? Too bad, just do 15 minutes cardio. Too rushed to pack a healthy snack? Too bad, do it the night before. Debra showed me not only the "what" of my poor choices, but also the "why." Six months later, I am back to mindful eating. I have learned how to use equipment at the gym that used to intimidate me. I am back on a regular exercise schedule. I am buying new jeans! And, I have lost weight, body fat and inches. I feel confident and strong and have done it with the support of a great group of women and most of all, with Debra, a terrific trainer and sensible nutritionist.

I started training with Debra Basch in July 2013, and she has "turned this ship around", to say the least! I was coming off of a tumultuous period in my life, which included a bout with cancer. I needed to devote time and effort to getting back in shape, and building strength as I entered my 50s. Over the past nine months, Debra has helped me build the strength and endurance I was lacking, and I look forward to every minute I spend training with her. She's like a trainer, nutritionist and therapist, all rolled up into one pint-sized (and incredibly strong) body! She is so inspirational and motivating, which leaves me wanting more week after week!

I have been training under Andrea Gilbert Clark's direction for a couple of years now. Andrea has taken the time to understand my body's weaknesses and areas for strengths. She has developed many different workout programs for me - covering all of the major muscle groups, working on cardio, flexibility, strength, balance and more. Working and training with Andrea has increased my overall strength, especially my core, which has allowed me to be more active and more comfortable in my day to day life. Whether it is rollerblading, skiing, playing tennis, sitting at my desk at work. I feel an overall improvement in my body and general well-being. I recently completed 24 sessions with Andrea Gilbert Clark. Andi has given me the push to do so much when it relates to my health. First and foremost - eating better. I must admit this is one of my most difficult areas of health. Having to face Andi every Monday and Wednesday has given me a much needed kick. Not only am I now eating better but Andi has also given me the motivation I was lacking to get back into working out. I had lost interest in working out, but learning new exercises and her upbeat attitude has helped me get back into shape. Beth - Just a quick note to thank you for helping me finally establish a regular and successful fitness routine. When I think about getting started with you, I can see a lot of value in my initial commitment of at least three months of training sessions. I had tried to establish a fitness routine on my own many times prior with no success. You made going to the gym enjoyable for the first time, but more than that, with your help I was able to really see and feel the results of my efforts for the first time. I have now been able to maintain my fitness level with regular gravity training at eMbody. In addition, I have just returned from a strenuous volunteer trip to Africa which included a six hour hike in dense forest to see the Ugandan gorillas. I never would have been able to accomplish this trip (pain free I might add) if it had not been for our work together.

I cannot tell you how impressed I was with the club. I have been stressing out looking for a gym to join for a while now. And it isn't about the money but the experience. Your entire environment is no pressure and supportive. The class I took yesterday was probably one of the best classes I have ever taken. The teacher clearly knew the audience. It was challenging but not impossible. He was motivating but not forceful. The exercises were totally catered to a woman's body. I really really enjoyed it. Well not so much today because I can barely walk up the stairs :)
I will definitely be joining. I hope you guys change nothing about this concept because from what I have seen so far, this is exactly as a gym should be. Thank you for taking the time to explain everything to me.
I want to thank you for your inspiration and for helping to motivate me to start getting into shape. With your assistance, I have achieved my first fitness goal - joining the club, attending regularly, and making exercise an important and integral part of my life. Joining eMbody is the best thing I have done for myself in years. eMbody’s small community setting results in an intimate, supportive, non-threatening and non-intimidating experience – truly motivating factors for someone like me who is trying to get back into an exercise routine after a hiatus of many years. The atmosphere is professional and friendly, and the club is especially clean and stocked with excellent quality equipment, which is almost always accessible for as long a period as one wishes. While there are still some days when I truly do not feel like working out, I know from my experience at eMbody over the last number of months that I always feel better after I have exercised.

I went to see Lance in the fall of 2011 because of chronic foot pain. I was unable to walk or hike for long distances without experiencing pain. After receiving MAT treatments from Lance I was able to go to Ireland on a golf trip, walk and play 5 courses in five days with virtually no pain. The number one reason I became a member of embody Fitness was the convenience of location. eMbody has top quality instructors with friendly personalities and a strong ability to engage, encourage and motivate participants during and after classes. Since my journey began at eMbody just 4 1/2 months ago I have become physically stronger, the kinks and stiffness in my body are far less. When I was first told about Mindful Yoga, I scoffed and thought that it lacked physicality and from what I was used to, that I might actually find it boring. However a friend who had been working with Ann-Marie suggested that I let go of all pre-conceived notions and to approach the practice with a completely open mind; which turned out to be sage advice.
What I found was a balance between the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of yoga that I had not ever experienced before. Furthermore, I found the static (yin) aspect of the practice to be far more challenging than I could have anticipated and the beneficial results were completely unexpected – and powerful! It’s amazing what happens when you get the body to completely stop and the incredible impact that can have on the body, mind, and soul. Overall, I have found Ann-Marie’s practice to be both enlightening and an important aspect of my well-being.

Since beginning personal training sessions with Victoria DeSousa a little over a month ago I have not only seen improvements with my physical fitness, but she has also helped me to overcome persistent hip pain through MAT.
